Mark 4:35-41 – Fear

Hi y’all!  This is yet another post based off of Kacy Benson’s sermons from Impact, but fear not!  For this is my last Impact post. . . for now!

Fear not!  is my corny pun of the day, why?  Because this post is about trusting God through fear.  We read from Mark 4:35- 41

35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

Fear can cause us to. . .

  • Miss what is going on around us
    • God’s voice- John 10
    • People who are hurting
      • Luke 10:30-34
      • 2 Timothy 1:7-8
  • Run Away
    • Storms come out of nowhere- Mark 4:35-41
      • Jesus will help us overcome
      • Fear and faith can not co-exist; either your fear will overtake your faith or your faith will overtake your fear, it is always YOUR choice
  • Freeze Up
    • “Camp highs” wear off- Matthew 26
      • Matthew 26:69-75, Peter disowned Jesus, “I don’t know the man!”

God calms the storms.  He calms our fears. . .

‘ Lord I need you, oh I need you.  Every hour I need you.  My one defense, my righteousness, oh God how I need you.’

God can save us from freezing up, help us notice what’s around us, and comfort us from running away.  Let Go and Let God!

  • Be the leader!
  • God is the one you run to!

Ok y’all, I’m going to take a break on Impact posts 😀 and pray y’all have a blessed week!

-Claire 😀
