Worship: Giving God What’s His

Hey guys!  I’ve got a short but still really good post on worshiping God which is written based off of my notes from Super Summer in June.  Worship is one of the easiest and hardest ways to spend time with God.  I mean we do it every Sunday at church right?  But worship is more complex than that.  Here’s the 411 on worship:

The Great Commission

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” -Matthew 28:19-20

The Greatest Commandment

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.  -Matthew 22:37-38

Worship is for God

15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.  -Colossians 1:15-18

God doesn’t NEED our worship, He knows who He is.  God takes delight in our worship and seeks those who truly worship Him.  We desperately need to be in God’s presence.  God is with us when we worship.  Often, the biggest obstacle when we worship is ourselves.  Worship is more about how we live than what we sing.  “Christians don’t tell lies, they just go to church and sing them.”  A.W. Tozer  Worship isn’t a causal business, it’s serious business.  When you sing if you don’t mean it, you are mocking Him.  Authentic worship calls us to go deeper with God.  God wants the real thing from you.
